Taking place over Mother’s Day weekend in May (8th – 11th, 2026), this four-day floral extravaganza transforms the charming streets of Niagara-on-the-Lake into a vibrant, living canvas of colour, creativity, and community spirit.

This event was a highlight for me, and I can’t wait to visit again for what I consider the most beautiful weekend of the year!

The Perfect May Weekend Escape

May is that sweet spot in the Niagara Region, when the air feels fresh, patios start to buzz, and everything begins to bloom. There’s something undeniably uplifting about getting outside after a long winter, and this festival offers the ideal excuse to do just that!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is already known for its storybook charm, but during Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom, it feels even more magical. 

My mom and I went during 2025 for its first year, and it was so relaxed! It’s a time where you can sip coffee in the morning, wander, wander through flower-lined streets, and enjoy a glass of local wine in the afternoon, all surrounded by breathtaking floral displays.

It’s also timed perfectly with cherry blossom season and gorgeous blooms around town!

The festival offers a laid-back yet lively atmosphere that’s easy to enjoy at your own pace, regardless of if you’re visiting for a day trip or a weekend!

Step Into a Floral Wonderland

The streets of historic Old Town are dotted with stunning floral installations around every corner. This year’s theme for the 2026 Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom is “All Creatures BIG and Small,” bringing a whimsical twist to the experience, with imaginative designs crafted by talented local florists, designers, and horticulturists.

From delicate butterflies to bold, larger-than-life creations, the town becomes an immersive outdoor gallery celebrating both nature and artistry.

The best part? The outdoor installations are completely free to explore. Plus, there are so many free things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake, you can easily stretch this over a span of a couple days!

You will need tickets to access the Gardens at the Pillar and Post, which truly can’t be missed. I could’ve spent the entire day there!

Parking is free at the Pillar and Post, so be sure to arrive early to grab a spot! You can also hop on a trolley there which will stop at various points around town should you wish to explore town afterwards (a definite must)!

A Thoughtful and Memorable Mother’s Day Idea

If you’re searching for a meaningful way to celebrate Mother’s Day, this festival checks all the boxes. Instead of the usual gifts, why not give the experience of quality time, fresh air, and beautiful surroundings?

Start the day with a stroll through the free outdoor installations, grab lunch at a local café or an elegant afternoon tea at the Prince of Wales or HobNob Restaurant, or a relaxing garden workshop. 

You can also opt to take part in the festival’s own Bubbles & Blooms Afternoon Tea or the Bonnet Luncheon where you’re encouraged to wear your favourite bonnet or hat to win a prize!

There are so many photo-worthy moments along the way, and because the installations are spread throughout the town, you can easily tailor the day to suit any pace.

Walking around town also gives you the perfect opportunity to pop into the boutique shops along Queen Street. You never know what you’ll find! We grabbed the opportunity to stop into the Niagara Apothecary – beautifully restored 1869 pharmacy, along with a few of our favourite shops.

More Than Just Flowers

While the floral displays are the heart of the festival, there’s so much more to enjoy. Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom brings together a full lineup of garden-inspired experiences, including:

• The Bonnet Luncheon: a signature event combining elegance, creativity, and spring fashion
• The Garden Fair: featuring boutique vendors, expert garden talks, workshops, and delicious food and drink
• Culinary events and tastings: highlighting local flavours and seasonal ingredients
• Hands-on workshops and seminars: perfect for garden enthusiasts and curious beginners alike

The festival’s pièce de résistance is the “Birds of a Feather” Gala Dinner – an unforgettable evening that blends delicious food, wine, and stunning designs – which you could probably guess, this year’s theme is birds!

While much of the festival can be enjoyed freely throughout the town, some experiences do require tickets. These include:

Why You Should Go

Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom is the epitome of a spring celebration and is the perfect way to spend a spring day in Niagara, soaking in the best of what the season offers.

Whether you’re planning a Mother’s Day outing, a romantic weekend, or a spring getaway with friends, this festival offers a refreshing way to make the most of May.

If time allows, and if you have a vehicle, it’s well worth your time to drive 15 minutes to Niagara Falls to visit the Centennial Lilac Garden too, as it will be in bloom with over 1200 lilac bushes! It’s my favourite place to visit during the spring and a peaceful way to enjoy the sunshine!

A Fort Built for War

Fort George was originally constructed between 1796 and 1799 by the British Army to guard the Niagara River and protect Upper Canada from potential American attacks. Its location directly across from Fort Niagara in New York made it a prime military post. That also meant it was a prime target.

Fort George played a key role during the War of 1812, serving as the headquarters for the British Army along the Niagara frontier. It was the site of several major battles – the most known being the Battle of Fort George in 1813 – and even briefly fell under American control before being retaken by British forces later that year.

It’s been fully restored to reflect what it would have looked like in the early 1800s. We spent almost 3 hours here but could’ve easily stayed longer!

Rebuilt and Brought Back to Life

The original fort was largely destroyed during the conflict, but thanks to meticulous reconstruction work in the late 1930s (part of a Depression-era public works project), Fort George now stands as a faithful recreation of what it would have looked like in the early 1800s.

And it’s not just a collection of old buildings – this is living history at its best! You’ll find re-enactors cooking over open fires, firing muskets, and sharing stories from the past.

It’s a fantastic spot to bring kids (and kids at heart!) and it was so nice to see families and kids roaming the grounds and being intrigued by all that’s going on.

The programming is excellent and you’ll find numerous demonstrations throughout the day, from a flag-raising ceremony, musket firing, history talks, Fife and Drum Corps music, and on special events throughout the year.

Fort George Today: Why It’s Worth the Trip

Fort George is part of Parks Canada and was designated a National Historic Site in 1921. It’s incredibly well-preserved and maintained and all the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable.

I think it’s one of the best historic attractions in the region. I recommend setting aside a few hours for this activity if you’re planning to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake.

It’s also a perfect pairing with other Niagara-on-the-Lake activities: enjoy a morning at the fort, then grab lunch in town, see a play at Shaw Festival, visit local wineries, or take a riverside stroll along the Niagara Parkway. There are a ton of free things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake too!

When most people hear the name Laura Secord, they think of the chocolates. But tucked away in the picturesque village of Queenston, the Laura Secord Homestead offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of one of Canada’s most celebrated heroines. 

More than just a historic house, this lovingly restored home tells the story of bravery, perseverance, and the early days of a nation shaped by conflict.

Who Was Laura Secord?

Laura Secord is a name that resonates with many Canadians, often linked to tales of heroism during the War of 1812. But beyond the famous chocolate brand that bears her name lies the remarkable story of a woman who defied the odds to make history.

In June of 1813, Americans barged their way into her home which she shared with her husband, James. They ordered her to feed them dinner and spoke freely about their plans to try and defeat the British Army.

After overhearing American officers discussing a planned surprise attack on British troops (and not expecting her to know any different and assuming she would have no one to tell), Laura embarked on a grueling 32 kilometre trek through enemy territory, woods, and swamps to warn Lieutenant James FitzGibbon. 

Laura was 37 years old and had 5 children at the time, and this unfathomable journey took her 18 hours to do. She set off in her regular clothes to not draw any attention to herself, and struggled through deep brush and exhaution before coming face-to-face with a Chief of an Iroquois tribe. This tribe understood her pleas, and assisted her to her final destination.

It was because of Laura Secord’s bravery that the British forces, along with hundreds of First Nations warriors, made a surprise attack on the Americans before they could carry out their surprise attack, and defeated the Americans at the Battle of Beaver Dams and prevented any further American forces from coming into Canada.

Guides dressed in early 19th-century attire bring the home to life with stories of Laura, her family, and the War of 1812 as you tour through the rooms decorated with period furniture and artifacts. It gives you a real sense of what life was like over 200 years ago.

It was later donated to the Niagara Parks Commission and remains one of the best-preserved historic homes in the region, along with another one of my favourites, McFarland House (a fantastic spot for afternoon tea, too)!

Then, in 1860, the Prince of Wales (who would later become King Edward VII) visited Niagara Falls. He heard Laura’s story and was so impressed that he awarded her £100 for her bravery and her role in helping defeat the American forces.

That £100 might not sound like much today—about $170 Canadian—but back in 1865, it would’ve been worth around $3,676! A decent chunk of change for the time… though still kind of underwhelming considering what she did.

Laura lived a long life, passing away at 93. She’s buried in Drummond Hill Cemetery in Niagara Falls (considered to be one of the most haunted places in Niagara), right beside her husband James.

Follow in the Footsteps of Laura Secord!

Did you know you can follow the same 32 km journey Laura took? It’s called the Laura Secord Legacy trail which leads you from the Laura Secord Homestead and ends at Decew House Heritage Park. 

There’s an amazing step by step trail guide found on the Friends of Laura Secord site. I’ve done bits of this trail (as some of it connects with the Bruce Trail) and it’s incredible that she managed to do this trek in nothing more than what looks like ballet flats!

Niagara-on-the-Lake might be known for its charming boutique shops, elegant wineries, and luxurious stays, but that doesn’t mean it has to break the bank! In fact, some of the best experiences in this picturesque and historic town are absolutely free.

While there are numerous amazing things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake, there’s plenty to enjoy here without spending a dime if you’re planning a romantic getaway, a family day trip, or visiting by yourself!

Here’s how to soak in all the charm of Niagara-on-the-Lake for free.

1. Stroll Through the Heritage District

Of all the things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake, one of the best free things you can do is just take a walk down Queen Street; it feels like you’ve stepped into a storybook! With heritage buildings and stunning architecture, these flower-lined streets are so lovely to stroll around on.

Pop into the boutique shops, bakeries, restaurants, and art galleries along the way – you never know what unique treasures you’re going to come across!

Good to know: If you’re driving and need to park your vehicle, metered parking is enforced from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm daily. Parking rates range from $5.25-$5.75 an hour. 

2. Get inspired at the Gardens at Pillar and Post

If you’re on the hunt for a beautiful spot to snap some photos, the Gardens at the Pillar and Post are a must-visit! Inspired by Monet, this dreamy space features a serene pond, a charming boardwalk beside a cascading waterfall, and tons of photo-worthy backdrops. 

Spanning acres a few blocks from Queen Street, it’s the perfect spot to soak in the atmosphere and it’s entirely free to visit. They also have drinks and snacks available from the Outpost at the Gardens (while I realize this part isn’t free, sometimes it’s worth having a trade-off!).

During winter in Niagara-on-the-Lake, you can ice skate here too, with rentals costing a mere $5.

3. Take a Free Walking Tour

Taking a free walking tour in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a fantastic way to soak up the charm and history of one of Canada’s prettiest towns. As you stroll past beautifully preserved 19th-century buildings, quaint shops, and flower-lined streets, a knowledgeable local guide shares fascinating stories about the area’s War of 1812 battles, underground railway, and more. 

It’s perfect for all ages, and you’ll uncover hidden gems you might otherwise miss—like tucked-away gardens, historic plaques, and ghostly tales. 

Tours depart daily at 10:00 am from the Old Court House (26 Queen Street) and are approximately 1.5 hours. You can book your spot online with Free Walking Tours NOTL.

Navigating Niagara tip: While the walking tour itself is free, guides rely on tips. Suggested donation is $15.

4. Relax at Queen’s Royal Park

Arguably one of the prettiest spots in town, Queen’s Royal Park offers stunning views of Lake Ontario and across to Old Fort Niagara in New York. Bring a blanket, sit by the iconic white gazebo, and watch the sailboats drift by. It’s a peaceful place to pause and breathe in that fresh lakeside air.

You’ll find a small beach here, along with picnic tables, benches, and restrooms.

5. Stroll the Niagara River Recreation Trail

For those who love a good walk or bike ride, the Niagara River Recreation Trail stretches along the Niagara River and offers incredible views of the water, greenery, and even glimpses of Toronto on a clear day. It’s the perfect place to stretch your legs and  take in the scenery.

If you’re really amibitious, or up for a good long bike ride (or walk!) this is one of the ways you can get from Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake, too! In fact, this entire trail goes all the way to Fort Erie, and goes by some of the most beautiful landscapes and historic sites.

6. Unwind at Simcoe Park

Simcoe Park is located at King and Queen Street, across from Prince of Wales Hotel. This beautifully maintained green space is where you’ll find families and couples on a sunny day, soaking in the sun. There’s a playground and splash pad for kids, and during the summer you can catch a free concert at the bandshell.

The park is named after John Graves Simcoe, who was the first Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada from 1791-1796!

7. Check out Fort Mississauga

If you’re interested in Canadian history, Fort Mississauga is well worth a visit. Located at the mouth of the Niagara River, this National Historic Site dates back to the War of 1812 and was built using salvaged materials from the town of Newark (now Niagara-on-the-Lake), which had been burned during the war. 

The Fort features a unique square brick tower surrounded by star-shaped earthworks which still stands today .While the tower itself isn’t open to the public, you’re able to walk the grounds and take in scenic views of Lake Ontario and Fort Niagara across the river. 

You can access the Fort from the corner of Simcoe and Front street, leading down a winding path through the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club (so be mindful of any rogue golf balls)!

8. Wander Through the Voices of Freedom Park

Niagara-on-the-Lake has deep Black history dating back to the 1780s, when both enslaved Africans and free Black Loyalists arrived after the American Revolution. Some fought in Butler’s Rangers and were granted land and freedom, while others were brought as property by Loyalist settlers. 

In 1793, this town became the site of the British Empire’s first anti-slavery legislation. Despite these steps toward freedom, many Black residents faced racism and discrimination as they built their lives.

You can also take a Voices of Freedom self-guided walking tour (either by printable map, or audio-guided free app) and experience the journeys and experiences that honours the legacy of Black Canadians

You can find this park just behind the Market Square parking lot off of Queen Street. 

9. Explore Fort George’s Grounds

While there’s a fee to enter the fort itself, wandering around the grounds of Fort George is totally free—and still full of history. This historic stronghold once acted as the headquarters for the British Army’s Centre Division during the War of 1812. It played a crucial role in defending Upper Canada and shaping the course of history!

Peek through the gates, walk along the perimeter, and enjoy the views of the Niagara River.

You can also check out nearby Butler’s Barracks, which is free to explore and offers insight into the area’s military past.

Good to know: Parking is now paid at $8.50. As the historic area of Niagara-on-the-Lake is pretty walkable, I’d suggest leaving your car in one spot for the day (as parking isn’t transferable). Admission to Fort George is free on Canada Day!

10. Step inside the Old Court House

Step back in time and explore one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s historic gems! From May through Canadian Thanksgiving, the charming Old Court House swings open its doors every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Take a stroll inside and uncover its storied past with captivating historical displays and printed materials that bring the building’s fascinating history to life. From 1846 – 1862, it was the official County Seat, buzzing with court cases, community life, and big decisions—until the court moved to St. Catharines.

Over the years, it’s been a Town Hall, post office, fire hall, bank, suspenders factory (yes, really!), library, museum, and even once used by Shaw Festival Theatre for plays.

This is one of my favourite places to see the poppy project in Niagara around Remembrance Day.

11. Check out Butler’s Barracks

Just a short walk from Fort George (or by car) Butler’s Barracks in Niagara-on-the-Lake is packed with history—and it’s free to visit! Before the War of 1812, this land was home to the British Indian Department, which acted like an embassy, negotiating treaties and alliances with Indigenous nations. 

After the war, the area transformed into a military hub named after Loyalist leader John Butler. By 1854, it housed 20 buildings and became the centre of British and Canadian defense in the Niagara region. Soldiers trained here for everything from the Boer War to peacekeeping missions. 

While you can’t go inside any of the buildings, you can walk the grounds and see original 19th-century buildings that mark over 150 years of Canada’s military past. 

12. Go back in time at the Niagara Apothecary

Step back in time at the Niagara Apothecary – a beautifully restored 1869 pharmacy that feels like a scene straight out of a history book! Located in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, this free museum lets you peek into a real apothecary that served the community from 1820 to 1964. 

From vintage medicine bottles to old-timey cure-alls, it’s an intriguing look into the world of 19th-century healthcare. 

Good to know: Niagara Apothecary is open seasonally from mid-May through Labour Day (early September) and weekends until Canadian Thanksgiving (October).

13. Catch Free Events and Festivals

Niagara-on-the-Lake hosts a variety of free events throughout the year. From summer concerts in Simcoe Park to Christmas parades, there’s often something happening around town. 

Spring brings new life to the region, and one of the most beautiful new events is Niagara-on-the-Lake in Bloom. Wineries, hotels, restaurants, and shops display gorgeous floral displays designed by florists and horticulturalists. It’s entirely free to enjoy throughout downtown. 

You can also visit Fort George for free on Canada Day (July 1) and see the musket demonstrations, cannon firing, free tours, and live music.

One of my favourite things to do during the winter in Niagara-on-the-Lake is visit the Ice Wine Festival, where the downtown turns into a huge market area filled with winery stalls, live music, and ice sculptures, which is also free to wander and enjoy!

14. Window Shop at the Local Art Galleries

Pop into one of the local art galleries or artisan shops along Queen Street for a dose of creativity. While you’re not required to buy anything, many of these spaces welcome browsers and offer a chance to appreciate the talents of local artists and painters! 

One of my favourites is the Edward Spera Gallery, where you’ll find stunning art inspired by wild animals and nature.

15. Enjoy a Sunset at Ryerson Park

A lesser-known gem, Ryerson Park is tucked away in a quiet residential area and offers some of the best sunset views in town. It’s a favourite among locals for evening walks, and a great place to end your day on a golden note. There are a few picnic benches and access to a small beach and offers a quiet place to relax.

There is very limited parking (only four spots!) as it’s a residential area, but if you can grab a spot the views (and lake breeze) is so soothing. It’s best to arrive by bike or foot.

16. Take a Self-Guided Historical Tour

History is around every corner in Niagara-on-the-Lake! If you’re into seeing all the history the town has to offer, there’s an incredibly insightful 7 km historic walking tour you can do that takes you through the town’s significantly important buildings, monuments, and plaques.

You’ll learn about early settlers, battles, and how this small town played a big role in shaping Canadian history.

17. Relax at McFarland Park (and See one of Niagara’s Oldest Buildings!)

McFarland Park is a beautiful free greenspace along the Niagara Parkway. During the summer you’ll see families playing games and lounging under the shade of the trees. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon by the Niagara River (and has seasonal washrooms, too).

The park is known for the historic 1800s Georgian-style home – McFarland House! It’s one of the oldest remaining structures in Niagara that pre-dates the War of 1812! During the war, the home was used as a hospital and headquarters by both the Americans and the British. It was later used as a gun battery to help guard the Niagara River.

It’s also along the scenic Niagara River Recreation Trail, which is great for walking and biking, too, if you’re looking for a quiet space to begin the trail.

Good to know: While there’s a fee for guided tours at McFarland House, it’s well worth a visit. If time and budget allows, it’s a cozy spot for an afternoon tea in Niagara – and one of my favourite places! Parking at McFarland Park is metered at $8/hour.

18. Visit Queenston Heights

While Queenston Heights is 15 minutes from downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake, it’s entirely free to visit if you’re looking for a place for rest, relaxation, and beautiful views!

Start with stunning views and a stroll around Brock’s Monument, then follow the scenic trail down the escarpment into the charming village of Queenston. On your way, pass by the Laura Secord Homestead and swing by the Mackenzie Printery. 

While both of these historic sites are paid entry, you can stroll by and soak in the history from the outside for free – and the architecture is beautiful, too!

Queenston Heights is also one of the most spectacular places to see the cherry blossoms in Niagara during the spring. You’ll find families picnicking under their delicate pink blooms and they make for such beautiful photos!

Good to know: Parking is metered at $8/hour, or included in the Niagara Parks Annual Parking Pass. You can park for free at Laura Secord Homestead and walk around Queenston Village and head up to Queenston Heights from there.

19. Snap a Photo with the Floral Clock

Located just outside Niagara-on-the-Lake near Queenston Heights, the Floral Clock is one of the most photographed landmarks in the Niagara Region. With over 16,000 plants making up its colourful face, the clock is a beautiful—and free—stop for anyone exploring the area. 

If you’re visiting during the spring, check out the Centennial Lilac Garden right next door. It’s one of the best hidden gems in Niagara Falls and only lasts a week or two! Parking is entirely free.

20. Get Inspired at RiverBrink Art Museum

Tucked away in the quiet village of Queenston, RiverBrink Art Museum is a hidden gem that’s well worth a visit. Set in a former country home overlooking the Niagara River, the museum features an impressive collection of local, regional, national, and international art—something you won’t find anywhere else in the area. 

It all started with the passion and generosity of Samuel E. Weir, a Canadian lawyer and art collector who donated his personal collection. With ever-changing exhibits, RiverBrink is a relaxed and inspiring stop on any Niagara-on-the-Lake itinerary that’s away from the crowds.

Good to know: While technically free, admission to Riverbrink Art Museum is by donation. Consider donating a few dollars while you’re there!

21. Check out a Tiny Chapel

Don’t blink or you might miss it! The Living Water Wayside Chapel in Niagara-on-the-Lake is the tiniest church in Canada (and one of the smallest in the world)!

Built in 1964, this pint-sized place of prayer is no bigger than a one-car garage, but it’s big on charm. It can fit just 6 people inside, and yes, there have been weddings here!

It’s a unique spot to see, even if you’re just curious how small it really is. Be sure to pop into Walker’s Country Market (right next door) afterwards for some local goodies and produce.

Visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake on a Budget

Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of those towns that prove you don’t need to spend big to make big memories. We often visit to stroll the streets, visit the shops, and relax by the lake!

With its natural beauty, historic charm, and community spirit, it’s the ideal place for a relaxing day trip or weekend getaway. Wander through the gardens, soak in the scenery, and learn something new. Come and enjoy some of the best things things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake for free!

1. Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake by Car

Driving is the fastest and best way to get from Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake, if you have a car. The trip takes about 25–30 minutes depending on traffic, and you’ll be treated to scenic views along the Niagara Parkway—a road once called “the prettiest Sunday drive in the world” by Winston Churchill.

Navigating Niagara tip: Take the Niagara Parkway for a scenic and relaxing ride. This road hugs the Niagara River and passes wineries, historic sites (like McFarland House which is a fantastic spot for afternoon tea!), picnic spots, cherry picking and peach picking farms, and lookout points. 

Parking in NOTL: There’s metered parking in town and paid lots near Queen Street. In the busy summer season, arriving early helps you score a good spot.

2. By Niagara-on-the-Lake WEGO Shuttle

If you don’t have a car, the second best option to get to Niagara-on-the-Lake from Niagara Falls is by taking the Niagara-on-the-Lake Shuttle, if you’re visiting during the typical tourist season which is from mid-April through mid-October. 

This shuttle connects to the WEGO bus service which extends past the Green Line’s Floral Clock stop. You can purchase an all day pass either at the Floral Clock or at Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake. 

Adults 13+: $25 – if you have purchased the Niagara Falls Adventure Plus Pass, your Niagara-on-the-Lake Shuttle is included!
Children 3-12: $15
Spring hours: 10:30 am – 6:30 pm departing every hour on the half hour from the Floral Clock and returning every hour on the hour from Fort George.
Summer hours:  9:30 am – 7:30 pm departing every hour on the half hour from the Floral Clock and returning every hour on the hour from Fort George.

3. Niagara-on-the-Lake Guided Tour

Of course, if you want to explore the best of what Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer, the simplest and most cost effective way to do that is by taking a guided tour from Niagara Falls! Plenty of these tours depart from Toronto too, which is an added bonus if this is where you’re visiting from.

These tours will shuttle you to the highlights along the Niagara River to Niagara-on-the-Lake and either give you some free time in the historic area of NOTL or stop by a few wineries.

Some tours like this Niagara Falls Tour with Cruise and optional lunch from Niagara  offers bundling the thrilling boat cruise experience with lunch and Niagara-on-the-Lake, making it more of an added-value bang for your buck option!

There are plenty of tours to choose from, depending on what you really want to see. If you don’t want to piece your day together on your own and buy separate tickets, a guided tour may be the best option for you.

4. Niagara-on-the-Lake by Bike

If you’re up for some fresh air and gentle exercise, biking from Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake is a fantastic option. The Niagara River Recreation Trail is a paved, dedicated path that stretches 56 km from Fort Erie to NOTL. The portion between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake is just under 25 km and mostly flat.

You’ll pass wineries, parks, historic landmarks, and scenic overlooks along the way, and an ideal ride great for all fitness levels.

If you don’t have your own bike, there are bike rental shops in both Niagara Falls and NOTL, and some offer one-way rental packages or pickup services. If you’re in Niagara Falls, a great option is Snap E Bike Rentals.

We also see the Zoom Leisure Bike rentals all over the place in Niagara-on-the-Lake and they offer by the hour, half day and full day rental pricing!

5. By Taxi or Uber

If you’re looking for a convenient door-to-door option, a taxi or rideshare (like Uber) will get you there quickly. It’s more expensive than public transit (and the most expensive options as a whole), but great if you’re short on time or travelling with a group.

Estimated cost: Around $60-$100 round trip, depending on the time of day and traffic.

6. By Foot

While I wouldn’t normally recommend this because it would take ALL day, you do have the option if you really wanted to, to hike to Niagara-on-the-Lake from Niagara Falls.

From Clifton Hill it’s a length 22 km, but it is a scenic stroll along the Niagara Parkway. The path leads through quiet Queenston Village and connects with the Bruce Trail side trail.

The Bruce Trail begins from Queenston Heights, and one of the side trails (called the General Brock Side Trail) leads into Niagara-on-the-Lake. It’s a stunning, leisurely walk along the Niagara River and past wineries, historic sites, and peaceful viewpoints. From Queenston Heights it’s 12 km which would take you anywhere from 1.5 hours – 2.5 hours.

This would be something you’d need to stay over in Niagara-on-the-Lake for, and maybe pamper yourself with a spa visit at Pillar and Post or Spa at Q, or luxurious afternoon tea!

As someone who visits regularly, there are so many hidden gems and unique things to discover. Let’s uncover what there is to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake, beyond the wineries!

1. Visit Wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Alright, I know I just said we’ll talk about what things there are to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake other than wineries, but I can’t talk about this amazing town without mentioning its wineries!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of the most famous wine regions in the world. With over 100 wineries in its proximity and 50+ just within NOTL itself, each one just a stone’s throw away, each winery is different and no two wines are alike.

There are plenty of wine tours you can join if you’re visiting, and some are even offered by bike for a unique experience. You can also do a self-guided wine tour; each winery has something going on virtually every weekend during the summer months, with live music, events, markets, food trucks, and more!

I can’t even tell you what my favourite wineries are because they’re all so unique, but some highlights include Ravine, Caroline Cellars, and Two Sisters Vineyard. To be honest, you won’t go wrong at any of the wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

2. Walk down Historic Queen Street

One of the major draws to Niagara-on-the-Lake is that you can wander aimlessly without spending a dime. I love walking down Queen Street, especially during the summer or over the holidays; winter in Niagara-on-the-Lake is so beautiful!

Cozy cafes, cute boutique shops, flower-filled streets, and beautiful architecture add to the historic charm. This is a good start if you’ve never visited NOTL before – it really does look like a set from a Hallmark movie!

3. Check out Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region. Established in 1896, the museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents that illustrate NOTL’s history, from Indigenous peoples and early settlers to its role in the War of 1812 (which is huge!).

The museum is also a fantastic spot to see the local Poppy Project display in November.

Admission is a very reasonable $5/adults for $3/seniors and $2/students. Under 18 is free. You can even take guided historic tours through the town (which I recommend) for $10/adult or $5/student on weekends throughout the summer. This $10 includes admission to the museum.

4. Catch a Play at Shaw Festival Theatre

Did you know you don’t have to go to Toronto to catch a play? The Shaw Festival Theatre was founded in 1962, inspired by the works of George Bernard Shaw. There are now more than 10 plays a year, drawing crowds of 250,000+ from all over the world!

A diverse collection of modern and classic plays show at three theatres, put on by talented actors, directors, and designers. I’ve seen a few myself, like Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd, and Prince Caspian.

With numerous showtimes to pick from throughout the year, theatres are within walking distance to shops and restaurants, and makes a perfect addition to a visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake!

5. Try Ice Wine

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a dream come true for ice wine lovers! This charming town is famous for its delectable ice wine, made from grapes that freeze naturally on the vine.

Thanks to the region’s perfect mix of cold winters and warm summers, the ice wine here is of the finest quality and loved world-wide. Visit wineries like Inniskillin and Peller Estates and learn about the secrets of this sweet, luxurious drink. 

During one of our region’s coldest months – January – you can visit Niagara-on-the-Lake for its Ice Wine Festival! The festival is located on Queen Street downtown, and features outdoor tastings, gourmet cuisine, and live entertainment.

This is the best time to sample award-winning ice wine from local wineries in a perfect winter wonderland setting!

6. Explore the Past at Fort George

Fort George offers a thrilling dive into history that’s perfect for the whole family! Built between 1796 and 1802, this fortification served as the headquarters for the Centre Division of the British Army during the War of 1812. It played a key role in the defence of Upper Canada, and now you can visit and learn about Niagara’s early military history.

This well-preserved 19th-century fort brings the past to life with lively reenactments, complete with musket and cannon firings. Step back in time as you explore interactive exhibits and  join guided tours, including a visit to the powder magazine. This is the only building to survive the Battle of Fort George and is the oldest military building in Ontario!

Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a fun day out, Fort George promises an unforgettable journey into Canada’s storied past.

P.s. It’s said that Fort George is one of the most haunted places to visit in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Find out for yourself!

7. Sample local Brews

Niagara is more than just wine! Several local brew houses service up unique craft beer across Niagara-on-the-Lake. Start your tour on historic Queen Street at The Exchange Brewery where you can taste a range of innovative beers in a sleek, modern setting.

Just outside of town is Niagara Oast House Brewers, housed in a charming red barn, where you can enjoy a variety of farmhouse ales and seasonal brews like Strawberry Ale or Apricot IPA! 

Or visit Silversmith Brewing Company, located in a stunning old church, known for its exceptional Black Lager and other creative beers. Each brewery provides a memorable taste of Niagara’s vibrant craft beer scene.

8. MacKenzie Printery

See where history comes to life at the MacKenzie Printery! This hidden gem lets you explore Canada’s oldest printing press and even try your hand at printing. Learn how newspapers were made in the 19th-century, crafting beautiful works of art with antique tools. 

The interactive exhibits are perfect for all ages, making learning history an engaging adventure. With hands-on activities and fascinating stories, the McKenzie Printery is a must-visit for families and history buffs alike.

9. NEOB Lavender

Neob Lavender in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a lavender lover’s paradise! In the heart of downtown, their charming store bursts with delightful lavender goodies, from soaps to sweet-smelling sachets. 

But the real magic happens just outside town at their sprawling lavender farm. 

During the summer you can Roam the Lavender and through fields of vibrant purple blooms, inhaling the soothing scent of lavender. It’s the perfect spot for dreamy photos and a relaxing escape. Neob Lavender is pure bliss!

10. Step Back in Time at McFarland House

McFarland House is one of my favourite places to visit in Niagara-on-the-Lake and I’d even consider this one of the area’s hidden gems.

Built in 1800 – and the only remaining building in the area that predates the War of 1812 – this beautifully preserved Georgian home offers a fun and educational glimpse into the past. You can explore its elegant rooms, guided by costumed interpreters who bring history to life with fascinating stories. 

During the War of 1812, it was used as a hospital and headquarters by both the Americans and the British. It was later used as a gun battery to help guard the Niagara River.

The cherry on top to visiting here is the charming glass-enclosed Conservatory Tea Room, attached to McFarland House. As one of my favourite places to go for afternoon tea in Niagara, you’ll enjoy delicious homemade treats and locally sourced tea. Take a stroll through the park afterwards and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a unique outing, McFarland House combines learning and leisure, making it a must-visit spot in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

McFarland House is open from the end of April – October. Admission for adults 13+ is $7.75, children 3-12 are $5, and under 3 is free. This Niagara Parks Historic Site is included in the Adventure Pass Plus, or you can grab a Heritage Trail Pass including admission for 6 historic sites.

11. Explore Niagara-on-the-Lake by Horse and Carriage

Exploring Niagara-on-the-Lake by horse and carriage is a charming way to experience this picturesque town. The beautifully restored carriages are drawn by horses that have been rescued from difficult situations and given a new lease on life at a dedicated farm. 

These horses are well cared for and loved, adding a heartwarming element to your journey. As you clip-clop through the historic streets, you’ll enjoy the scenic views and the unique stories of both the town and the horses, making your visit truly memorable.

12. Bike along the Niagara Parkway

Biking down the Niagara Parkway is a perfect way to enjoy a relaxing day in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Pedal along a scenic route with the mighty Niagara River on one side and lush vineyards on the other. The fresh breeze, picturesque views, and vibrant greenery make every turn a delight. 

Stop for a picnic, explore historic sites, or sample local wines along the way. Whether you’re out with friends or enjoying a leisurely ride, the Niagara Parkway offers the perfect blend of excitement and relaxation.

If you want to do a self-guided tour around Niagara-on-the-Lake, I recommend renting a bike from any number of Zoom bike stands scattered across town, or directly from the Zoom Leisure Bike shop.

You can also join a fun wine bike tour which is a unique way to tour the area and its wineries! Perfect for groups of friends or a date idea!

13. Soak in History and Views at Queenston Heights

Queenston Heights is a perfect blend of natural beauty and rich history. Located in Niagara-on-the-Lake and a short drive from Niagara Falls, this expansive park is ideal for families and picnicking. 

Offering lush green spaces and scenic views of the Niagara River, it’s a great spot to escape to if you want a break from the crowds. It’s one of my favourite places to see the cherry blossoms during spring, and if you visit during the fall, it’s a beautiful place to see the fall foliage.

Hiking enthusiasts will love the numerous trails winding through the park. The Southern Terminus of the Bruce Trail can be found here, too!

You’ll find monuments dedicated to the War of 1812, particularly the Battle of Queenston Heights, a pivotal moment in Canadian history. The site also features Brock’s Monument, a towering tribute to Major General Sir Isaac Brock, and the Landscape of Nations, dedicated to First Nations and Six Nations allies.

You can walk to MacKenzie Printery and Laura Secord Homestead from here too, on a scenic path that leads to Queenston.

14. See a Monet-Inspired Garden

The Gardens at the Pillar and Post is the place to be if you’re looking for a great place to relax, snap some photos, and grab a bite to eat. This Monet-inspired garden has a boardwalk along a waterfall, a large pond, and lots of opportunities to take that perfect shot.

Entry to the park is free (and if you’re driving, parking is free, too!). Grab a bite to eat or a drink at the Outpost at the Gardens and make an afternoon of it. This is one of my favourite free things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

15. Afternoon Tea at Prince of Wales

Afternoon Tea at the Prince of Wales is an absolute must when visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake. It’s a perfect spot for a girls’ getaway, bachelorette, mother-daughter date, or a relaxing afternoon with your loved one. This light and airy tea room is classy and stunning and you’ll feel like royalty!

It definitely ranks up in one of my favourite places to go for afternoon tea in Niagara. The quality of the pastries and sandwiches are top notch, the tea is served in classic bone china, and you can even enhance your experience with a glass of local sparkling wine.

You can even find adorable tea packages for kids, and His Royal Highness, which includes cheese, charcuterie and scotch. 

I recommend booking this early if you plan to do it, since it can be popular, especially on summer weekends.

16. Spa Getaway

A spa getaway in Niagara-on-the-Lake is your ticket to ultimate relaxation and fun! Start at the luxurious 100 Fountain Spa at the Pillar and Post, where you can dive into bliss with heavenly massages, refreshing facials, and soothing hydrotherapy sessions. 

Or treat yourself to the Secret Garden Spa at the Prince of Wales Hotel, where holistic therapies and dreamy garden views await. 

Expect pampering like never before, top-notch therapists, and a chance to unwind in style. It’s the perfect escape for a rejuvenating, fun-filled retreat!

17. Niagara Apothecary Museum

The Niagara Apothecary Museum is a quirky gem in a restored 19th-century pharmacy. Once operating from 1820-1964, you’ll find this place complete with vintage bottles, mysterious potions, and old-timey charm. 

Take yourself back to a Victorian-era apothecary, looking at old remedies and marvelling at the fascinating artefacts. It’s a unique, fun, and educational experience that transports you to another era. Don’t miss this enchanting spot—it’s a perfect blend of history and whimsy!

Visiting the museum is one of the many free things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

18. Dining in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara-on-the-Lake boasts a culinary scene as vibrant as its vineyards! Dive into delectable dishes at Treadwell Cuisine, where local ingredients shine in every bite, or indulge in innovative cuisine with a modern twist at The Cannery, housed within the historic Pillar and Post that was once a canning factory in the 1890s.

For a taste of Italy, Il Gelato di Carlotta serves up creamy gelato that’s a true delight on a sunny day.  Craving something cozy? The Olde Angel Inn offers hearty pub fare and a lively atmosphere. 

Whether you’re a foodie seeking gourmet delights or simply hungry for fun, Niagara-on-the-Lake’s dining options won’t disappoint!

19. Check out a Farm Market Stand

Visiting roadside farm stands and farmers markets in Niagara-on-the-Lake is just one of those things you have to do when you visit! Enjoy what the area is best known for – its fresh fruit and produce!

Freshly picked fruits and vegetables from local fields like peaches, plums, grapes, peas and asparagus. You’ll find something different as the seasons change. Artisanal cheeses, homemade preserves, and baked goods showcase the region’s culinary diversity. 

Stop at places like Walker’s Country Market or Thwaites Farms for a taste of Niagara. You’ll find some roadside farm stands scattered throughout Niagara-on-the-Lake too, so you never know what you’ll come across!

20. Visit a Pick-Your-Own-Fruit Farm

If you want to go beyond visiting a farm market, what about picking your own fruit? 

Niagara-on-the-Lake is world-renowned for its fruit orchards and is a popular place for cherry picking and peach picking! It’s the perfect summer activity and fun for the entire family.

21. Fort Mississauga National Historic Site

Fort Mississauga is a picturesque military structure nestled at the mouth of the Niagara River at Lake Ontario. 

Once the location of Upper Canada’s first lighthouse, Fort Mississauga was built during the War of 1812 to strategically guard the Niagara River to protect the British/Canadian frontier against Fort Niagara on the American side. Later on, Fort Mississauga was used to train recruits for the First and Second World War.

You can visit the site, although the tower is closed year-round. There are numerous interpretation panels and the star-shaped earthen works are accessible by paths. Just be mindful of your surroundings, since this Fort is located at a golf course!

22. Chocolate F/X

Chocolate F/X is a chocoholic’s dream come true! Step into their sweet haven and indulge in hands-on chocolate-making workshops where you can craft your own delicious treats. 

Their store is a paradise of chocolatey delights, offering everything from gourmet truffles to quirky chocolate novelties. Dive into their chocolate-covered everything section or treat yourself to their famous hot chocolate bombs. 

Book a free 30 minute tour and learn about their techniques as you enjoy a guided tasting of some of their most popular products, as well a pure melted chocolate shot! What’s not to love? 

23. Butler’s Barracks

Originally built during the War of 1812, Butler’s Barracks housed British troops and played a crucial role in defending Upper Canada. It now stands as a captivating historic site, and it’s free to visit.

Today, you can explore the site’s well-preserved buildings and imagine soldiers in their 19th-century routines. 

24. Laura Secord Homestead

The Laura Secord Homestead is where Canada’s most famous heroine, Laura Secord, used to live! Nestled in a picturesque Queenston, this historic site offers a peek into her courageous journey during the War of 1812. 

Exploring the very rooms where Laura planned her daring trek to warn British forces of an impending attack. With engaging tours with costumed guides, the Laura Secord Homestead promises a fun and educational experience for all ages.

25. Visit an Art Gallery

Niagara-on-the-Lake boasts a vibrant art scene with galleries that showcase a diverse range of artistic expressions. From contemporary to traditional styles, these galleries feature works by both local and international artists. 

Many galleries are nestled along Queen Street, making it easy to stroll and discover captivating pieces. Dive into local culture with exhibits that celebrate Niagara’s rich history! 

Whether you’re a seasoned art aficionado or just curious, these galleries promise a fun-filled journey into the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s artistic soul.

26. See the Living Water Wayside Chapel

The Living Water Wayside Chapel, tucked between two trees beside Walker’s Country Market, has been a charming landmark since it was built in 1964.This pint-sized chapel isn’t just adorable—it holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s smallest chapel!

You can even get married here – but keep your guest list small – it only fits about 6 people!

Its tiny white façade exudes quaintness and serenity, making it a popular spot for couples seeking a unique and memorable ceremony amidst the beauty of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

27. Picnic in the park

Picnicking in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a perfect way to relax in this historic town. 

Whether you pack your own picnic, grab takeout from a restaurant, or pick up a picnic box from a local company like Picnix Niagara, there are a number of picnic areas in Niagara-on-the-Lake! 

Two of my favourites are Queen’s Royal Park, which offers stunning views of Lake Ontario, while Simcoe Park boasts lush greenery and shady spots perfect for spreading out a blanket. 

28. Queen’s Royal Park

Queen’s Royal Park is where charm meets riverside relaxation! Perched along the banks of where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario, this park offers views of sailboats gliding by and of Old Fort Niagara in the USA. 

This park offers the only public swimming beach on the Niagara River, and the gazebo is a popular spot for photos and weddings. Located just steps from Queen Street, Queen’s Royal Park offers a moment of peace in a beautiful setting.

29. Voices of Freedom Park

Voices of Freedom Park just a block back from Queen Street is packed with history and inspiration. It’s dedicated to telling forgotten stories of people of African descent: the enslaved, freed, and whose sacrifices, labour, skills, and talent contributed to the development of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

As you wander through its beautifully landscaped paths, you’ll encounter striking sculptures and interactive displays that tell powerful stories of courage and resilience. 

This unique experience connects you to the spirit of freedom fighters. It’s the perfect spot to visit for families, those interested in history, and curious minds.

30. Whirlpool Jet Boat

For those seeking adventure, head to Whirlpool Jet Boat and make your way through the Niagara River rapids!

Whirlpool Jet Boat tours promise an unforgettable experience amongst incredible scenery in this 45 minute heart-pumping attraction to the Niagara Whirlpool and up the Rapids. 

If you don’t want to get soaked, you have an option to take the jet boat tour that keeps you dry. But on a hot summer’s day, you may want to get completely drenched!

31. Admire the Architecture

Of course, I couldn’t talk about Niagara-on-the-Lake without mentioning its beautiful architecture! I could stroll the neighbourhood streets for an entire day and marvel at how every house and building is unique.

Centuries of traders, missionaries, explorers, soldiers, and battles have shaped the way NOTL looks today. The town features Georgian and Victorian styles, with elegant brick and clapboard buildings, ornate gables, and detailed woodwork. 

Many of these buildings date back to the early 1800s, like St. Mark’s Church (1804), McFarland House (1800), and the Court House Theatre (1847). When you visit, take a wander through some of the side streets. You won’t be disappointed!

Queen Street in historic Niagara-on-the-Lake turns into a magical scene during the winter. The charming boutique shops are dressed up and are perfect for finding unique gifts, artisan crafts, and delightful keepsakes. 

Warm up with a steaming cup of coffee or hot chocolate from one of the quaint cafes, like Balzac’s! If you’re looking for a snack to tide you over, head to Budapest Bake Shop for their amazing chimney cakes, Doughvine Bakehouse, or Nina Gelateria & Bake Shop, all found around Queen Street.

If you’re visiting with kids (or are just a kid at heart!) and if they’re anything like my niece, gelato and ice cream are considered a year-round treat! Cow’s Creamery and Il Gelato di Carlotta are her favourites.

December is my favourite time to visit, and if you happen to come then too, you’ll see the beautiful Christmas decorations adorning every corner—pure postcard perfection! Pick out the perfect Christmas ornament at Just Christmas (which is open year round!), stop by Maple Leaf Fudge for the best fudge I’ve ever eaten, or pop by Greaves to pick out tasty preserves. 

There are so many eclectic shops to stop into, so whether you’re looking for a gift for a loved one, or yourself (!) you’re bound to find something unique.

Navigating Niagara tip: Parking in Niagara-on-the-Lake is free during the month of December. Otherwise, parking close to Queen Street ranges from $5.00 – $5.50 an hour (and is enforced from 10 am – 8 pm).

2. Sip on Wine & Icewine at a Local Winery 

Winter is a fantastic time to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake’s world-renowned wineries. For me, one of the best parts is enjoying wineries without the crowds. Yes, you won’t be able to enjoy the outdoor experience as you would during the warmer months, but visiting on a winter day is peaceful and a great way to spend an hour or two. There have been many times we’ve sat and sampled a variety of wines, had some snacks, and just enjoyed the ambience on a lazy Sunday.

As snow blankets the vineyards, indulge in rich reds, crisp whites, and the region’s iconic icewine, made from grapes frozen on the vine. After all, winter is icewine season, so I recommend giving it a try! If you’ve had icewine in the past and didn’t like it, I suggest giving it another try. They’ve come a LONG way and is such an enjoyable treat.

Looking for something truly unique? Check out Peller Estates’ Greatest Winery Tour, where your tasting experience is in Niagara’s only igloo-like lounge – the 10Below Icewine Lounge! This incredible lounge is made from 13,500 kg of ice and is kept at a cool -10º.

Or, if you want to really experience a Canadian winter, check out Konzelmann’s Fireside Flight Tasting Experience, where you’ll be cozied up next to a private fire table and treated to a tasting flight with a sweet and savoury s’mores board! 

You can also book a Vineyard Dome Experience in a heated dome overlooking the vineyard while enjoying a tasting paired with locally-sourced charcuterie.

4. Take a Winter Walk 

Crisp air, crunching snow, and scenic views make winter walks in NOTL an absolute joy. Stroll along the Niagara River Recreation Trail or explore the historic streets lined with heritage homes. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a light dusting of snow—perfect for photos!

You can also join a free walking tour (well worth doing!!) or go on a guided ghost walk; after all, Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of the most haunted places in Niagara!

For the more adventurous, the Bruce Trail begins at Queenston Heights. You can also hike the same path Laura Secord took (called the Laura Secord Legacy Trail) on her epic journey from her home in Queenston all the way to Thorold (in nothing but shoes resembling ballet slippers!!!).

I love the self-guided War of 1812 trail at Queenston Heights. There are numerous lookout points and interesting pieces of history to be found here and takes about 45 minutes to complete.

Navigating Niagara fun fact: The birthplace of Niagara Falls is located at Queenston Heights! It marks the original location of the Falls thousands of years ago. Around 12,000 years ago, after the last Ice Age, the Falls began forming near Queenston, where Lake Erie drained into the Niagara River. Over millennia, erosion caused the Falls to migrate upstream to their current location.

6. Enjoy World-Class Restaurants & Comfort Food 

Warm up with a hearty meal at one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s amazing restaurants. For farm-to-table dining, Treadwell Cuisine is a standout for its locally sourced ingredients and seasonal dishes. I also love HobNob Restaurant at The Charles Hotel. Their dining room is gorgeous and there’s a cozy bar and lounge, all under the roof of a Victorian manor. Pair your meal with a local wine, and you’ve got yourself a winter feast to remember.

For comfort classics, the Olde Angel Inn and the Irish Harp Pub are local favourites. You’ll find shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, steak & onion pie, and hearty stews. What better way to warm up on a brisk winter day?

7. Indulge in Afternoon Tea 

Escape the winter chill with afternoon tea in Niagara-on-the-Lake! Indulge in warm scones, finger sandwiches, and decadent desserts while sipping on premium teas. The historic Prince of Wales Hotel and HobNob Restaurant offer a cozy, elegant setting that feels like stepping back in time. 

It’s a delightful way to unwind, stay warm, and treat yourself. Perfect for a winter date or a girls’ day out!

9. Attend Winter Events 

Keep an eye on the calendar for special winter events in Niagara-on-the-Lake. From candlelit strolls to wine festivals, there’s always something happening. The Icewine Festival in January is a highlight, featuring tastings, culinary pairings, and live entertainment.

While winter is Niagara-on-the-Lake’s quiet season, there’s a ton going on!

Candlelight Stroll

Kick off the holidays with the magical tradition of the Candlelight Stroll! Grab a candle, wander through Old Town’s festive streets, and enjoy live carolers surrounded by sparkling decorations. Pure holiday charm!
