Taking place over Mother’s Day weekend in May (8th – 11th, 2026), this four-day floral extravaganza transforms the charming streets of Niagara-on-the-Lake into a vibrant, living canvas of colour, creativity, and community spirit.

This event was a highlight for me, and I can’t wait to visit again for what I consider the most beautiful weekend of the year!

The Perfect May Weekend Escape

May is that sweet spot in the Niagara Region, when the air feels fresh, patios start to buzz, and everything begins to bloom. There’s something undeniably uplifting about getting outside after a long winter, and this festival offers the ideal excuse to do just that!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is already known for its storybook charm, but during Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom, it feels even more magical. 

My mom and I went during 2025 for its first year, and it was so relaxed! It’s a time where you can sip coffee in the morning, wander, wander through flower-lined streets, and enjoy a glass of local wine in the afternoon, all surrounded by breathtaking floral displays.

It’s also timed perfectly with cherry blossom season and gorgeous blooms around town!

The festival offers a laid-back yet lively atmosphere that’s easy to enjoy at your own pace, regardless of if you’re visiting for a day trip or a weekend!

Step Into a Floral Wonderland

The streets of historic Old Town are dotted with stunning floral installations around every corner. This year’s theme for the 2026 Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom is “All Creatures BIG and Small,” bringing a whimsical twist to the experience, with imaginative designs crafted by talented local florists, designers, and horticulturists.

From delicate butterflies to bold, larger-than-life creations, the town becomes an immersive outdoor gallery celebrating both nature and artistry.

The best part? The outdoor installations are completely free to explore. Plus, there are so many free things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake, you can easily stretch this over a span of a couple days!

You will need tickets to access the Gardens at the Pillar and Post, which truly can’t be missed. I could’ve spent the entire day there!

Parking is free at the Pillar and Post, so be sure to arrive early to grab a spot! You can also hop on a trolley there which will stop at various points around town should you wish to explore town afterwards (a definite must)!

A Thoughtful and Memorable Mother’s Day Idea

If you’re searching for a meaningful way to celebrate Mother’s Day, this festival checks all the boxes. Instead of the usual gifts, why not give the experience of quality time, fresh air, and beautiful surroundings?

Start the day with a stroll through the free outdoor installations, grab lunch at a local café or an elegant afternoon tea at the Prince of Wales or HobNob Restaurant, or a relaxing garden workshop. 

You can also opt to take part in the festival’s own Bubbles & Blooms Afternoon Tea or the Bonnet Luncheon where you’re encouraged to wear your favourite bonnet or hat to win a prize!

There are so many photo-worthy moments along the way, and because the installations are spread throughout the town, you can easily tailor the day to suit any pace.

Walking around town also gives you the perfect opportunity to pop into the boutique shops along Queen Street. You never know what you’ll find! We grabbed the opportunity to stop into the Niagara Apothecary – beautifully restored 1869 pharmacy, along with a few of our favourite shops.

While the floral displays are the heart of the festival, there’s so much more to enjoy. Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom brings together a full lineup of garden-inspired experiences, including:

If time allows, and if you have a vehicle, it’s well worth your time to drive 15 minutes to Niagara Falls to visit the Centennial Lilac Garden too, as it will be in bloom with over 1200 lilac bushes! It’s my favourite place to visit during the spring and a peaceful way to enjoy the sunshine!

1. Queen Victoria Park

No visit to Niagara Falls in the spring is complete without a stop at Queen Victoria Park. Located right across from the iconic waterfalls, this beautifully manicured park comes alive with an explosion of tulips, daffodils, and magnolias.

The perfectly landscaped gardens provide a picture-perfect setting for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing picnic with a view of the misty Falls in the background.

2. Dufferin Islands

For a more tranquil and natural setting, head to Dufferin Islands, a hidden gem just minutes from the main Falls area. This peaceful park features a collection of small islands connected by footbridges. There are plenty of picnic areas and it’s a great spot for birdwatching. We’ve seen all kinds of ducks, geese, and swans here. We’ve even seen a fox!

In the spring, wildflowers and blossoming trees add bursts of colour to this scenic spot, making it a worthwhile place to wander through.

3. Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens

Located just north of the Falls along the Niagara Parkway, the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens is a must-visit for those who love flowers and gardens. Home to over 99 acres of beautifully maintained gardens, this horticultural haven boasts a stunning display of spring blooms, including tulips, daffodils, and flowering trees. 

The best part is, it’s one of the many free things to do in Niagara Falls! Parking is paid, but you can wander to your heart’s content at the Botanical Gardens (or arrive by WEGO if you have a Niagara Parks Attraction pass!)

If you’re looking for something else to do while you’re visiting, the Botanical Gardens is on the same property as the Butterfly Conservatory, where you can admire exotic butterflies fluttering among tropical plants.

4. Centennial Lilac Garden

One of Niagara’s most fragrant springtime attractions, the Centennial Lilac Garden is a true hidden treasure. This expansive garden, located near the Floral Clock, features over 1,200 lilac bushes in a variety of colours and scents.

Peak bloom time typically occurs for a short couple of weeks in May, filling the air with a delightful floral fragrance that’s simply irresistible. It’s one place I make sure I get to every year!

5. Oakes Garden Theatre

Oakes Garden Theatre is located steps from the base of Clifton Hill, and offers a unique combination of beautiful landscaping and breathtaking views of the Falls.

In the spring, the gardens here bloom with a vibrant mix of tulips, creating a stunning contrast against the dramatic backdrop of Niagara Falls. It’s a peaceful spot that’s popular for photos, and remarkably quiet given its location!

6. Magnolia Alley

Magnolia Alley is one of Niagara’s most enchanting springtime sights. You can find it right in front of the Floral Showhouse! These walkways are lined with magnificent magnolia trees that burst into bloom with soft pink and white flowers.

The delicate petals create a dreamy, fairytale-like atmosphere. It’s a popular spot for photos (like, REALLY popular!) so if you want some gorgeous unobstructed photos, make sure to get there early in the morning or late afternoon! 

7. Floral Clock

While the Floral Clock is a stunning attraction year-round, it gets a fresh burst of life in the spring when thousands of colourful flowers are planted to create intricate designs.

Located along the Niagara Parkway right next to the Centennial Lilac Garden, this massive clock is a perfect stop for a quick photo opportunity and to admire the artistic floral displays.

8. Niagara Glen Nature Reserve

For those who prefer a more rugged and natural floral experience, the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve offers stunning wildflower displays along its scenic hiking trails.

As you wander through the ancient Carolinian forest, you’ll spot a variety of native spring flowers, like trilliums and bloodroots. Hiking here is one of my favourite spots and offers unparalleled views of the Niagara River.

9. Kingsbridge Park

Nestled along the Niagara River, Kingsbridge Park is a peaceful spot to enjoy spring’s beauty. The park features a variety of blossoming trees and colourful flower beds, all set against the scenic backdrop of the river.

It’s one of the best spots to see the cherry blossoms in Niagara, too! It’s a great place for a peaceful walk, a picnic, or just soaking in the fresh spring air and sunshine.

10. Queenston Heights Park

Perched atop the Niagara Escarpment, Queenston Heights Park (while technically in Niagara-on-the-Lake) offers a breathtaking blend of history and natural beauty. In the spring, the park’s gardens burst into bloom with vibrant tulips, daffodils, and cherry blossoms.

With scenic walking paths (including the start of the Bruce Trail, Laura Secord Legacy Trail, and self-guided War of 1812 trail), stunning river views, and an abundance of floral displays, it’s a must-visit spot for those looking to enjoy a peaceful and picturesque spring day.

11. Floral Showhouse

For a unique floral experience (year-round, not just in spring!), visit the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse. This indoor botanical garden showcases an ever-changing array of stunning floral displays, with spring featuring vibrant hydrangeas, orchids, and tropical blooms. 

We LOVE visiting here with our Niagara Parks Annual Pass, since the display changes several times throughout the year and is the perfect spot to pop into if you need a burst of colour.

You don’t even have to go inside to see some spring blooms – the Floral Showhouse is surrounded by blossoming flowers – from tulips to daffodils, and is home to Magnolia Alley!

Magnolia Alley (also referred to as Magnolia Allée) is located outside the Floral Showhouse, just beyond the Horseshoe Falls and past the Niagara Parks Power Station. It’s one of the most popular spots for photos during spring, and really, it’s not hard to see why!

With over 50 magnolia trees, the picture-perfect pink, white, and purple hued petals are a show-stopping beauty that can be seen for free. 

If you’re looking for things to do in Niagara Falls during spring time, be sure to make a stop at the Floral Showhouse. The flowers open before the leaves of the magnolia trees do and there’s a sweet floral scent which fills the air, making the experience all the more captivating. 

When to visit Magnolia Alley

It’s best to visit Magnolia Alley in mid-late April, and even the beginning of May. It’s all dependent on the weather.

But fortunately there is a two-week bloom period, so there’s a good chance you’ll see them if you plan to visit Niagara Falls late April.

It’s entirely free to visit, so if you happen to be visiting the Falls during this time, it’s well worth a stop!

Making the most of your visit

If you want unobstructed views of Magnolia Alley, be sure to visit first thing in the morning before the crowds get there.

When I say it’s popular, I mean it’s really popular. You’ll see all kinds of families and photographers there getting their photos taken. 

After you stroll through Magnolia Allée, I recommend walking the rest of the grounds at the Floral Showhouse, where you’ll see tulips and daffodils too.

I also think it’s worth it to go inside the Floral Showhouse to see the gorgeous floral displays. You’ll also have access to the gardens there which have some cute miniature buildings and whimsical creatures.

There is a parking lot located at the Floral Showhouse you can park ($36/day or included in your Niagara Parks annual parking pass), or you can walk from Table Rock/Horseshoe Falls ($36/day). I recommend parking centrally and walking or taking the WEGO.

If you have a car and want to see more gorgeous spring blooms, head down to Kingsbridge Park, just down the Niagara Parkway for one of the best spots to see cherry blossoms in Niagara!

The Centennial Lilac Garden is one of my favourite free things to do in Niagara Falls – but blink and you’ll miss it! It’s only in bloom for a few short weeks every spring.

What is the Centennial Lilac Garden?

The Centennial Lilac Garden was planted in 1967 to mark Canada’s 100th birthday. Since then, it has blossomed into one of the most underrated gems in Niagara Falls!

With over 200 varieties of lilacs spread out across 10 acres, this garden is a paradise for lilac lovers, photographers, and anyone who appreciates a good floral Instagram moment.

Every spring, the garden transforms into a sea of purples, pinks, whites, and magentas — and the scent? Absolutely dreamy. You can catch me here stuffing lilacs up my nose – it’s probably one of my favourite smells in the world.

When’s the Best Time to Visit?

Lilacs don’t bloom for long — which makes catching them in their prime all the more special! It’s one of my favourite things to see during spring in Niagara.

• Peak bloom typically happens in early-mid May, depending on the weather. Early warm spells can make them bloom a little sooner, while chilly springs might delay the show by a week or two.
  
• For the best experience, keep an eye on Niagara Parks’ social media or using the Instagram location tag for Centennial Lilac Garden for real-time bloom updates.
  

Navigating Niagara tip: try to go in the morning or early evening to beat the crowds and catch the light at its dreamiest.

Why It’s Worth the Stop

If you’re after a sunny, peaceful spot to soak in some heavenly scents and beautiful blooms in Niagara Falls – this is your spot. In addition to being completely free (including parking!) it’s right next door to the Floral Clock – another stunning floral display that’s one of the largest of its kind.

The Centennial Lilac Garden is the perfect spot away from the busyness of Niagara Falls’ tourist area. Even when the lilacs are in peak bloom, it’s not overly crowded, and I really feel as though this place is somewhat of a hidden gem.

Pack a Picnic and Stay Awhile

Bring a blanket, a book, and some local goodies — this is picnic central. If you’re coming from Niagara-on-the-Lake, stop by a farm stand or market for fresh fruit, baked goods, or some local cheese.

Floral Clock

Right next door to the lilac garden, the Floral Clock is one of the largest in the world — and yes, it actually tells time! The design changes seasonally and is a great stop for photos.

Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens

Just a few minutes north, the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens offer 99 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens — and they’re free to enter! Plus, you’ll find the Butterfly Conservatory there, which is another favourite of mine. 

Niagara Glen Nature Reserve

Looking for something more active? The Niagara Glen offers rugged trails, forested paths, and jaw-dropping views of the Niagara River. Just don’t forget your hiking shoes – and bring a water bottle with you!

RiverBrink Art Museum

Just up the road in Queenston, the charming RiverBrink Art Museum features Canadian and international art in a peaceful, heritage setting.

Queenston Heights

With beautiful views of the Niagara River, vast green spaces, the beginning of the Bruce Trail and one of the prime spots to see the cherry blossoms in Niagara, Queenston Heights is an ideal spot for some rest and relaxation between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Is It Worth Visiting?

Absolutely.

The Centennial Lilac Garden is one of those sweet little surprises that you don’t normally find in busy tourist areas. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and totally different from the usual tourist spots. Whether you’re a local looking for a new spring tradition or a visitor planning an unforgettable weekend in Niagara, this garden is a springtime stop you won’t want to miss!

You don’t have to travel to Holland to see hundreds of thousands of colourful tulips; there are a few places in Pelham, Ridgeville, and St. Catharines where you can experience beautiful tulip fields and u-pick farms!

Tulip farms have a short window of time to enjoy (roughly 3-4 weeks) so make your plans, buy your tickets online ahead of time, and soak in the sea of colours awaiting you!

This is one of my favourite things to do in Niagara during spring – I guarantee it will be high up on your list, too!

1. Roadside Flower Market

Roadside Flower Market is a newcomer to the tulip-picking farm scene in Niagara this year.

They offer a you-pick tulip experience in St. Catharines, where over 500,000 thousand tulips await! Planted row by row with varying colours, a vibrant pop of colour is a feast for the eyes. 

Adults (14+) $25 including 10 you-pick tulips.
Children (3-14) $15 including 5 you-pick tulips.
Under 3 is free.
Admission to the farm is a one-time fee, and you’re welcome to return to enjoy the scenery, firepits, or take a hike around the property.

2. Sarah Grey Pick Farm

Sitting pretty at the location of the former TASC Tulip Farm, Sarah Grey Pick Farm is offering an exciting array of activities, food trucks, Paint & Pick events, and photo props this year at their tulip farm wonderland.

It’s a perfect setting for date nights, girls’ getaways, and mother-daughter days! Turn your tulips into a stunning bouquet at their on-site workshop to enhance your beautiful bundle!

TASC Tulip Pick Farm has moved to a new farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and it’s bigger than before! There are over 3 million tulips and 150 varieties. It’s like stepping into a dream world!

Offering fun photo props, wine experiences, date night events, food trucks, and workshops, visiting TASC is an experience not to be forgotten!

If you’re visiting Niagara during cherry blossom season, I guarantee you’ll want to stop to take photos! While Niagara is one of the top fruit-producing regions in the world, you don’t want to get caught with trespassing. Here are 8 public places to see the cherry blossoms in Niagara.

For your best chance of seeing the blossoming cherry trees in the Niagara Region, plan to visit mid-late April to mid-May, depending on the weather and area of Niagara you’re visiting. Their bloom time is short – between 7-10 days, so keep your eyes peeled!

1. Kingsbridge Park

Let’s start with Kingsbridge Park in Niagara Falls. Located a short drive way from Niagara Falls down the Niagara Parkway, Kingsbridge Park sits along the Niagara River and Welland River.

It’s the former site of the Battle of Chippawa, a well-known battle during the War of 1812. Kingsbridge Park is a peaceful place to escape the hubbub of the tourist area of the Falls. Lined with picnic tables, a scenic walking trail, covered pavilion, playground, and washrooms, it makes a great spot to check out the cherry blossoms during bloom.

While it’s free to visit Kingsbridge Park, parking fees apply at a rate of $8/hour. If you have a Niagara Parks parking pass, parking here is included.

2. Brock University

Brock University in St. Catharines offers another great public viewing spot for cherry blossoms. 200 Sakura cherry trees line the area between Sir Isaac Brock Boulevard and the roundabout that lead to the Schmon Tower. 

These cherry trees were donated by the Sakura Project in 2003 to symbolize the friendship between Japan and Canada.

Parking is $4/hour, offering you lots of time to snap some photos of these beautiful cherry blossoms.

Location: 1812 Sir Isaac Brock Way, St. Catharines

3. McFarland Park

With the beautiful McFarland House as a backdrop,  McFarland Park is a tranquil spot to see blooming cherry blossoms scattered throughout the park. Offering walking and biking trails, picnic pavilion, and washroom facilities, this is a perfect spot to enjoy some quiet away from Niagara Falls and on the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I recommend returning in the summer for a tour of McFarland House and enjoying an afternoon tea here. It’s a gorgeous historic property and one of the few buildings in Niagara-on-the-Lake that predates the War of 1812!

Parking is $8/hour on site, but there is free parking just north of McFarland Park. Parking is included here if you have a Niagara Parks annual parking pass.

4. Queenston Heights

Queenston Heights is a beautiful park a few hundred metres from the Canada-US border with amazing views of the Niagara River and tons of parking.

You’ll find cherry trees surrounding the parking lot and near Queenston Heights Restaurant. There’s a cluster of trees by the Laura Secord Monument.

Popular amongst families, hikers, and bikers, Queenston Heights is the famous site of the Battle of Queenston Heights during the War of 1812. Why not combine your visit with a self-guided history tour through the park?

5. Lakeview Cemetery

More unexpected than other locations is Lakeview Cemetery in Thorold.

The cemetery received a donation of 60 Japanese cherry trees from the students and staff of Toy Eiwa school (a Christian girls’ school) to honour its founder, Martha Cartmell. She crossed over to Japan by ship in 1884 to found the school in Japan during a time when Japanese girls were not allowed to be educated.

These stunning cherry trees line the walkway in the cemetery.

6. Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens

One of my favourite free places to visit Niagara Falls (throughout the year!) is Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. It’s extra special during spring when its cherry trees are blooming throughout the property.

Spanning 99 acres, you’ll not only spot cherry trees, but other blooming plants and flowers like azaleas and various perennials.

You can find the cherry blossoms near the pathways around the Butterfly Conservatory.

Parking is $8/hour, unless you have a Niagara Parks parking pass.

7. Legends Estate Winery

Down in my neck of the woods is a place where you can combine the beauty of blooming cherry trees and wine! Legends Estates in Beamsville sits at the edge of Lake Ontario, so you can enjoy views over to Toronto with a glass of wine with pink petals of cherry trees as your backdrop.

While it is technically free to visit the grounds here, I highly recommend popping into their store or arranging a tasting or tour ahead of time!

8. Foreign Affair Winery

Another amazing winery (and one of my favourites!) to see cherry blossoms is at Foreign Affair Winery in Vineland. Known for its bold red wines made using the Appassimento technique, this winery is located right next to a cherry blossom grove.

Pop in for a wine tasting in their wine cellar, it’s one of the best winery experiences we’ve had!

As winter bids farewell and the first blossoms begin to pop, the Niagara Region transforms into a vibrant paradise bursting with colour, fresh air, and outdoor adventures. Spring is the perfect time to visit before the summer crowds arrive, giving you a more relaxed experience. 

From breathtaking floral displays to seasonal events, here are the top things to do in the Niagara Region during spring!

1. Chase the Spring Blooms

Springtime in Niagara is pure magic!  As the region bursts into bloom, it becomes a paradise for flower lovers and photographers. If you’re after a flower-filled day, I recommend visiting Niagara Falls. From cherry blossoms, magnolias, tulips, daffodils, lilacs and more, you can tour Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake and get your fill of spring blooms!

Start your floral adventure at Magnolia Alley out in front of the Floral Showhouse for stunning soft purple, pink, and white magnolia petals. From there, head to Queen Victoria Park, where thousands of tulips and daffodils paint the landscape in vibrant hues. Don’t miss the iconic Floral Clock, Centennial Lilac Garden, and the meticulously designed gardens scattered throughout Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens—each one a picture-perfect spot!

Drive through Lincoln and Niagara-on-the-Lake for the most picturesque landscapes when the fruit trees are in bloom! There are over 1.7 million fruit trees in the area, with petals ranging from white, soft pink, and vibrant pink. It’s a magical site to see and definitely worth driving by!

From cherry blossoms, magnolias, tulips, daffodils, lilacs and more, Niagara’s spring blooms stretch all the way from Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Whether you’re strolling through historic streets or taking in nature’s beauty at scenic parks, spring is the perfect season to soak in the colours of Niagara! 

2. Stroll Through the Centennial Lilac Garden

Keeping with the theme of spring blooms, the Centennial Lilac Garden deserved a section of its own. Visiting this floral park is one of the many free things to do in Niagara Falls, but it’s definitely the most fragrant springtime experience you’ll find! To me, there is no greater scent than a lilac!

Home to over 1,200 lilacs in every shade of purple and white spanning 10 acres. Peak bloom time only usually lasts for 2 weeks, so save some time during May to come visit these intoxicating blooms!

There is plenty of free parking and is accessible via the WEGO transit system, for those travelling without a car. This garden is a must-visit from early-mid May (depending on the weather). The scent alone is worth the trip! As a bonus, the Floral Clock is located right next door so you can visit two blooming spots at the same time.

3. See a Play at the Shaw Festival Theatre

Spring is the perfect time to take in world-class theatre at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake. With a lineup of classic and contemporary productions, the festival offers a fantastic cultural experience in a charming setting. Pair it with a stroll through the town’s historic streets and a visit to a cozy café for a perfect spring day.

4. Take a Scenic Spring Hike

With winter in the rearview, it’s time to lace up those hiking boots and hit the trails!  The Niagara Glen Nature Reserve offers jaw-dropping views of the Niagara River and gorge, while the Bruce Trail winds through forests bursting back to life after their winter nap. It’s also my favourite time to hit up some waterfall hikes – they’re really flowing after the winter thaw!

Spring is when Niagara’s hiking trails truly shine, with blooming wildflowers, lush greenery, rushing waterfalls, and plenty of wildlife making an appearance. Oh, and plenty of wildlife (heads up, Rockway is known to be a huge snake nesting ground!). 

One of my favorite spring hikes is Ball’s Falls Conservation Area! This scenic spot is perfect for a quick trek, with charming historic ruins, two lovely waterfalls, and a picturesque village to explore.

Navigating Niagara Tip! Loads of Niagara Region public libraries have Niagara Peninsula Conservation Area Nature Plus Passes you can borrow for free for up to a week and save on admission!

Other stunning spring hikes to check out:
Short Hills Provincial Park – Lots of different trails available based on how long you want to hike (including an accessible trail). Includes waterfalls, wildflowers & peaceful forest paths
Beamer Conservation Area – One of the best spots for spring birdwatching and amazing views of the escarpment.
Rockway Conservation Area – A scenic spot with towering tall trees and waterfalls (paid parking)

PS – While parking at the Niagara Gorge is paid, if you have a Niagara Parks Annual Parking Pass, parking is included! And if you don’t have one, I recommend getting one for $50, even if you plan on visiting Niagara Falls a couple times during the year. It comes with 2 passes for 2 vehicles within the same household.

5. Visit a Tulip Farm

Spring means tulip season, and there’s nothing quite like strolling through rows of these vibrant flowers! We’re so fortunate we have amazing tulip farms in Niagara that are all near each other! It’s the perfect spring outing for families and couples – especially if you want some incredible family photos!

 If you’re looking for a dreamy way to celebrate spring, JP Niagara Tulip Experience, Sarah Grey Pick Farm, and TASC Tulip Farm are just the place! Your entry ticket isn’t just for admiring the breathtaking fields—you get to pick your own bouquet of 10 gorgeous tulips! With over a million tulips in 100+ varieties, the fields explode in a breathtaking array of colours – photos won’t even do it justice!

If you need a dose of spring, a visit to one of the tulip fields in the Niagara Region is an absolute must! It’s definitely an annual highlight for me.

With tulip season only lasting around 3 weeks, this is one spring event you don’t want to miss!

6. Hunt for Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms are SO beautiful and I anxiously await their bloom every year. These delicate pink blooms make an appearance for a short but spectacular time. Some of my favourite places to see the cherry blossoms in Niagara are at Queenston Heights and Kingsbridge Park, but other places around, too (like wineries)!

It’s a magical display of pink and white hues for a few special weeks each spring. Cherry blossoms are some of the most gorgeous and are highly sought after for photographers!

From Grimsby to Niagara-on-the-Lake and beyond, there are endless spots to snap photos of these whimsical petals.

7. Sip and Savour at a Seasonal Winery Event

Spring is an incredible time to visit wineries in Niagara, with the return of seasonal winery events across Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Niagara Benchlands. Many wineries host spring tastings, patio openings, and special events with tasting passports, where you can pair unique wine samples with delicious spring-inspired dishes.

It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the season with a glass in hand! Spring is an incredible time to visit wineries in Niagara. With the weather getting warmer in late April and May, tied in with seasonal blooms, visiting a winery for a local event is a perfect way to spend a spring day in the Niagara Region. 

Whether it’s sipping mimosas, pairing wine with fun foods like donuts and chocolate, or partaking in one of many winery events throughout the season (like the Spring Wine Trail in April), you can’t go wrong with visiting a winery during springtime.

8. Experience Niagara Falls Before Peak Tourist Season

Spring is one of the best times to visit Niagara Falls—before the summer crowds take over!

With favourable weather and less crowds, spring marks the return of the outdoor activities like the White Water Walk and the Whirlpool Aero Car (two of my favourite Niagara Falls activities!).

Stroll through the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens (it’s one of the free things to do!) and soak in the fresh pop of colour with blooming tulips and blossoms.

Or get up close to the Falls with Niagara City Cruises which gives you front-row seats to the thunderous beauty of the Falls. 

For some truly memorable, you can even book a fireworks cruise starting mid-May and watch the explosion of light and colour from below Niagara Falls! Visiting from Toronto? This guided tour bundles your transport and sightseeing all into one!

Visit attractions like this without waiting ages in line, and you’ll have a better chance of getting those photos you’re dreaming of without interrupted views! 

It’s also the perfect time to snag better hotel rates (dreaming of waking up in bed to a view of Niagara Falls?!) or dining at a restaurant overlooking the Falls – without all the crowds.

And if you’re a local (or planning to visit more than once), the Niagara Parks Annual Pass is a total game-changer! For $150/adult, you get unlimited admission to the best Niagara Parks attractions until December—meaning you can soak up the Falls in spring, summer, fall, and even in the winter!

9. Enjoy a Spring Market or Festival

Spring marks the return of farmers’ markets and outdoor festivals. Farmers’ Markets, like the ones in St Catharines or Grimsby are great places to find fresh produce, local honey, baked goods, and artisan products. 

Keep an eye out for annual events like the Handmade Market in Niagara Falls. There’s even a Renaissance Faire you can attend! Or head to the St Catharines Flower and Wine Festival, or the ever-popular Niagara Falls Comic Con. There are also loads of pop up markets at community centres, churches, and around town during this time. I usually find out about them through community Facebook groups and township websites. 

10. Take a Bike Ride Through Wine Country

With mild temperatures and blooming vineyards, spring is the perfect season for a cycling tour through Niagara’s wine country. Many wineries offer bike rentals or guided tours (like this cycling tour which includes a wine tasting, or make a full day of it with lunch! Or a guided E-Bike Wine Tour!), letting you sip and cycle your way through picturesque landscapes. 

With mild temperatures, fresh spring air, and vineyards coming to life, spring is the perfect season for a cycling tour through Niagara’s wine country. As the vines awaken from their winter slumber, the landscape transforms into a breathtaking mix of lush greenery and vibrant blossoms, making it an ideal time to explore on two wheels.

Bring your bike and set off on one of Niagara’s scenic cycling routes. If you prefer a more structured experience, guided wine tours provide an effortless way to sip and cycle through the region—no need to worry about navigation or planning! Some tours even include food pairings, behind-the-scenes vineyard visits, and the option to have your purchased bottles delivered to your final stop.

Navigating Niagara Tip: Don’t have your own bike? You can rent one easily in Niagara-on-the-Lake with Zoom Leisure Bikes for either half a day or a full day for a very reasonable rate. Or pick one up from any number of their Bike Share spots around town for $8/hour. There’s also super fun and SUPER affordable (it’s a steal!!!) bike tours you can take with them, which includes wine tasting!

While Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Niagara Parkway are the most popular cycling routes, don’t skip the Niagara Benchlands either! You can rent ebikes with ebike The Bench or join a wine tour which includes a stop for wine and lunch.
